Granite metrology tooling provides reference artefacts, each item manufactured to its governing standard. Specified for standards room, laboratory and inspection reference work.

Granite Squares

BS 939:2007 Bespoke sizes

Lapped reference squares for verifying squareness of machine axes, fixtures and components.

Lifting holes available on larger sizes.

Tri-Squares

BS 939:2007 Bespoke sizes

Three-faced squares for checking perpendicularity where a full master square is more than the job requires.

Parallels

BS 906:1972 grades Bespoke sizes

Matched pairs for precise location and support of workpieces, gauges and measuring instruments.

Vee Blocks

BS 3731:1987 Bespoke sizes

Matched pairs for locating and supporting round work during inspection and marking out.

Threaded inserts available on any working face.

Straightedges

BS 5204-2:1977 Rectangular section, to 2,000 mm

Granite reference edges for checking straightness and alignment of bearing ways and machined surfaces.

BS 5204-2 covers rectangular sections to 2,000 mm; longer lengths are supplied to order.

Standards follow the item

A square is BS 939 whether granite or cast iron; parallels are BS 906. Straightedges are the exception, split by material: granite is BS 5204-2, cast iron BS 5204-1.

Squares or angle plates

A granite square is a reference artefact for checking squareness. A cast iron angle plate is a working fixture that carries load. Most inspection departments hold both.

Calibration certificates and inspection reports supplied as standard with a new order.

The full suite of tooling is available in cast iron or granite.

Terminology

Granite squares are also specified as granite master squares. Vee blocks are also written V-blocks, and straightedges as straight edges.
